Zoe Saldana was one of the best dressed, not to mention the best coiffed, on the red carpet at the Met Gala this week. Sporting a simple yet elegant updo, she seemed to glide between poses in front of the paparazzi. This beautiful spectacle got us thinking about some of Zoe's other recent hairstyle achievements, such as a recent down 'do she wore to an AOL event. After much deliberation, it seems to us that Zoe can wear her hair any which way she pleases and still look totally gorgeous.
The question is, could you choose a favorite between her updo and her sleek loose waves?
Keep it simple
Zoe's Met Gala updo consisted of a small bun at the back, some volume around that and a few wispy stands left loose at the front. The result was a glamorous style, but one that didn't appear overdone. The trick with this kind of look is to tease the roots with volumizing spray then smooth the hair over into a chignon, shaking the hair at the front loose as you do so.
Her loose hairstyle was similarly low-key. It's main function was to showcase her shiny waves and for that, all you really need is a finishing spray to provide that light reflecting sheen.
All about balance
On both occasions, Zoe's hair was a tool of sorts to keep the rest of her ensemble balanced. Here is a lady who understands that most of the time, less really is more. No fancy embellishments, no complicated braids, just her hair, doing its thing and looking very pretty. It appears as though she has figured out a formula that works for her – both up and down – and she's sticking to it.
If you want to take a leaf out of Zoe's book, use your hairstyles to flatter both your face and your outfit in the least complicated way possible. Of course, if you do get an invitation to next year's Met Gala, aim a little higher than your laundry day pony...
