The 41st annual Toronto International Film Festival brought some of the most stylish and sophisticated looks to the red carpet, including some of this season's hottest hair trends, giving us major fall hairspiration. Whether it was wavy and tousled, sleek and straight, or pulled high up into an up-do, this year's red carpet saw a number of versatile hair trends that work on all hair types and textures.
So, with only 3 days left of TIFF 2016, we're looking back at some of this years' hottest hairstyles spotted on the red carpet.
TIFF 2016: BEST HAIRSTYLES ON THE RED CARPET
At this year's Fall 2016/17 Fashion Week presentations, hair accessories were a major trend spotted on runways at major fashion house's like Rodarte and Dolce & Gabbana. And now, for the Toronto International Film Festival, celebrities like Kate Hudson and Amy Adams brought the trend to the red carpet with one small, black ribbon worn in two unique ways.
While Kate wore her hair in a low French braid finished off with a tiny black bow at the end, Amy opted for a low ponytail that had a long ribbon wrapped around the base of the style for a more futuristic look.
Like hair accessories, the 'wet' hair look has become a major staple among celebrities like Kim Kardashian and Ashley Graham. The look was first spotted at the 2016 MTV VMAs, and has made its way to Toronto, showing itself in the form of a slick looped ponytail and sleek ponytail braid on Rooney Mara. To achieve this look, make sure to comb your hair thoroughly with a mousse-filled brush as you pull it back into an up-do. Finish off with an oil spray or shine finish hair spray to enhance the damp look!
While braids have always been a classic go-to hairstyle when you're looking to try something new or simply need a quick way to get your hair out of the way, the trend shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon. The TIFF 2016 red carpet was filled with unique braids, from a regal, oversized crown braid on the back of Haley Bennett's head, to a low-key French braid tied up with a ribbon on Kate Hudson, and even a braid twisted into a low bun on Brie Larson.
TOUSLED AND TEXTURED
One of our favourite hair trends popping up everywhere this season? Tousled, textured hair that adds volume and glamour to just about any look. Haley Bennett was the first to experiment on the TIFF red carpet, showing off a head full of crimped hair that was tied back into an extremely loose ponytail. Meanwhile, Dakota Fanning wore her messy, undone hair up into a high ponytail, and L'Oreal muse Naomi Watts opted for beach-y bohemian curls that brushed her shoulders.
