Long hair is simultaneously beautiful and demanding when it comes to styling. Leaving it loose is all well and goof but sometimes, you just need to keep your mane out of the way, whether for a workout or a fancy soirée. The good news is that there are some mercifully practical hairstyles out there that work for just about every occasion imaginable. These include basics like the ponytail and ballerina bun but sometimes you want something that packs more of a punch. Introducing the French braided chignon.
As pretty as it is practical, this style keeps all of your hair up and under control, minimizing frizz and flyaways. To find out how to recreate the look on your own hair, all you have to do is follow the tutorial below.
Apply a straightening cream to damp hair then dry our hair using a paddle brush to guide it straight. Once dried, brush your hair through and part it down the middle.
Split your hair into two equal halves and French braid your hair from the top of your head all the way down to the nape of your neck on each side. Keep going all the way down to the ends and secure with small hair ties. Don't worry if it doesn't look perfect, this style also looks gorgeous with a slightly messier finish.
Fold an twist the braids around each other and pin into a low chignon at the nape of your neck. Make sure you tuck the ends underneath as you do so to hide the elastics.
Spray your new style all over with a finishing spray to add shine and give your new style long-lasting hold.
Could this be your new go-to updo?
