Short hair updos: 3 styling hacks

Creating an updo can seem kind of impossible when you have a short haircut, but it doesn't have to be. Sure, chignons may seem like the domain of your more Rapunzel-tressed friends, but with a few styling hacks, you can get in on the updo action, too!
To help you figure out the best way to put your short hair up, we have three simple styling tricks for you.
1. Break the rules
When it comes to putting short hair up, there are no precise guidelines. With a lot of short cuts, twisting and pinning individual pieces of hair up to form a messy chignon works really well. If possible, secure as much hair as you can into a small pony, then pin everything else up around it.
FYI, leaving the pins exposed is also totally fine as they lend some edge to the finished style and are kind of becoming a huge accessory trend for 2015!
2. Leave your hair dirty
Styling a short hair chignon is generally easier with unwashed locks because they tend to have more grip, as is the case with any updo. If that isn't a great excuse to hit the snooze button one more time instead of getting up to wash and blow-dry, we don't know what is.
3. Make the most of your dry shampoo
Dry shampoo will help your hair bind together more easily, so spray your roots with plenty of it in order to absorb excess oil before styling. You should also spray your bobby pins with it to give them more grip, too.
Motto of the day: Keep your friends close and your dry shampoo closer.
