The man bun has established itself as the go-to solution for long haired famous men over the last couple of years. Brad Pitt and Jared Leto got the ball rolling within the realm of public consciousness and now a certain Orlando Bloom has been seen with his hair scraped back into a low knot at this year's Comic Con in San Diego.
So, what is it about this style that keeps Hollywood's hunkiest coming back for more?
Obvious though it may seem, practicality has a lot (read: 85%) to do with it. It's a surefire way to keep unruly hair under control, giving it a pulled-together finish - literally! Another big draw with this style is how texture can be showcased or kept on the down low, depending on how polished you want/need to look.
Find out how to achieve the perfect bun with the tutorial below.
Get the look
Step one: Comb your hair back from your face. This will take care of any knots or tangles, making the following steps easier.
Step two: Apply a small amount of gel evenly throughout. Use a wide-tooth comb to make sure you get the best coverage.
Top tip - Be careful not to overload your hair. You want just enough hold to keep flyaways in check, creating a subtle all-over sheen. Anything more runs the risk of appearing too slick.
Step three: Gather your hair back into a ponytail at the nape of your neck then, as you pull it through the elastic for the last time, stop halfway to create a loop. That's it!
What do you think? Could Orlando Bloom's bun be your new favorite hairstyle?
