Longer haircuts have become a big grooming trend for men lately, and if you're planning to try it yourself, you'll need to update your regular haircare routine, or start one! In order for your hair to reach Johnny Depp levels of handsomeness, you need to keep it strong and healthy, as well as looking good.
To help you figure out how to do just that, we have all the essential haircare tips you need to achieve the long locks of your dreams.
Conditioner and plenty of it
Perhaps the most important thing you can do to keep your hair at the top of its game is to condition it. If you don't already, get in the habit of using a conditioner after shampooing, and make time for the occasional hair mask to replenish lost nutrients and moisture. This will keep the strands strong and help to prevent breakage and split ends.
For those of you with hair that is naturally quite oily, only condition twice a week and do the mask on a monthly basis.
Get regular trims
While growing your hair out, regular trims are essential for maintaining shape and avoiding any awkward angles. Once you hit your desired length, keeping your hair trimmed will remove damaged ends and keep your mane looking cared for, rather than ragged and unkempt.
Try some different products
As your hair gets longer, you'll probably find that it reacts differently when you style it as you usually would. To make sure you get the best results, try experimenting with some different products and styles. You might find that gel works better than pomade, or a matte putty gives you the texture you want over a wax. It's all about trial and error until you work out what your hair likes.
