Disheveled hair and formal occasions don't seem like a match made in heaven but, when styled right, they can be. Whether or not you love the floral tie, the guy opposite (or his stylist) struck a perfect balance between unkempt and 'some semblance of effort', creating a look that can be got away with, even for the most serious of occasions. It's a style that won't create friction with the boss during the day but won't look too overdone for a night out either. The best of both worlds? Quite possibly.

What you need:
Deconstructing cream wax
Step one: For this style, it's easiest to start with dry hair. If yours is damp, rough blow-dry it before you begin. To boost volume, flip your head upside down and blast the roots.
Step two: Scoop a small amount of cream wax out of the jar with your fingertips and warm it by rubbing your hands together. In quick sweeping motions, work it back through your hair, starting at the top and working your way down.
Step three: Add more cream wax as you go then, once you're satisfied with the amount of hold, use a wide-tooth comb to part your hair on one side. The choice is entirely yours; go for whichever side feels most natural and/or looks best.
Step four: Use your fingertips to massage the roots on top. This will build some extra volume and create a slightly mussed texture. Tousle individual sections of hair by twisting them then breaking them up with your fingers.
Step five: Smooth down the back and sides and make any final adjustments with your hands.
