Occasionally, the mood for a drastic new haircut strikes us and we immediately begin daydreaming about cutting down on our blow drying time and using less shampoo. Then the panic sets in as we realize that shorter hair might mean saying "bye bye" to braids and bouffants.
What if you could get the look of a shorter hairstyle, without the commitment of chopping off your luscious locks? This tutorial shows you how to get a super chic faux bob in just a few easy steps!
Get the look
There are two different methods for achieving this look, so experiment with both to find the one you prefer. Before you start, brush out your hair so it's smooth and sleek. If you need a little extra shine, apply serum or hair oil.
Use a comb to split your hair, from one ear to another, so there's a top section and a bottom one. With the lower half, gather the hair at the back of the head and roll it into a miniature bun that you will then secure using bobby pins, it should lie quite flat against your head. Next, gather the top section of hair into a ponytail at the nape of your neck, securing it with a hair tie a few inches from the scalp. Use your hands to pull the hair forward so that it creates the bob shape, and flip the rest of the ponytail through the hair so that it rests with the bun. Secure the ends of the ponytail with bobby pins.
Divide your hair into four sections (one on each side and two on the back) and then roll up each sections tightly up towards the neckline. Secure each roll with a bobby pin that's been sprayed with hairspray to hold the style. Once you feel that it's secure, gently pull the hair at the top of your head up so that it creates a more natural look.
A new 'do, just like that!
