Braided hairstyles can often seem intricate and, sometimes, impossible. If you go back to basics, however, you might find that a simple braid is totally doable! This long braid style is a great look to start with because it's surprisingly easy to achieve. After all, no one starts out knowing how to make their fingers construct a fishtail crown braid!

Braids work really well with plenty of volume so start styling in the shower with a volume-enhancing shampoo and conditioner combo.
Once you're out of the shower, scrunch some volumizing mousse through towel dried hair and rough-dry completely. To lift your hair all over, flip your head upside down to finish the drying process and blast the roots.
If you feel like you need it, add yet more volume with a thickening spray and tease before you braid your hair. Otherwise, just go for it! Use a French technique, starting 2/3 of the way down the back of your head.
Start the braid as if you were gathering your hair back into a half-up style, then incorporate more hair with each piece as you work your way down to the nape of your neck. When all the hair has been used, braid normally all the way to the ends.
Secure your hair when you're approximately 3 inches or so from the ends. Loosen the braid by pulling it out slightly at the edges for a more laid back, bohemian feel.
Complete the look with a finishing spray to add shine, keep flyaways under control and give your style great hold.
What do you think? Could this be the first braided hairstyle of many?
