The annual CFDA Fashion Awards took place in New York City on June 2, drawing some of the fashion industry's finest. From top-tier designers to quite a few 'best dressed' list regulars, including Blake Lively and Naomi Campbell, the dresses were dressy and the hair was even better!
So, if you're in need of a little hairstyle inspiration, you're in the right place.
Blake's vintage look
L'Oréal Paris spokesperson Blake Lively didn't disappoint after her many successful outings at the Cannes Film Festival recently. The actress rocked up with a retro 1960s-inspired look with a Barbarella-esque wave and a monotone headband.
Get the look: Steal her style with a simple blowout, wrapping the hair all the way around a barrel brush then gliding it through to the ends as the hair dries. Spray each section with hairspray to fix the wave then brush the hair through once dried. Tease at the crown then push the hair back with an Alice band before applying a finishing spray.
Blake's fellow brand ambassador Liya Kebede opted for a simple curly style to accompany her bright white ensemble. The waves were natural yet defined, thus creating a look that was polished but not overdone.
Get the look: Apply a curl-defining mousse then blow-dry your hair using the diffuser attachment. Once dried, part your hair to one side with a wide-tooth comb then curl individual sections with a curling iron to help even out the style. Again, complete the look with a finishing spray.
Best of the rest
Sophia Bush's hair was stylishly sculpted into a set of classic Hollywood waves with one side smoothed back. A truly timeless look, this 'do will never get old! The same goes for Naomi Campbell's flowing mermaid waves which were the perfect style to complement her metallic gown. Also rocking a shimmery number was Solange Knowles whose voluminous afro was the crowning glory atop a seriously glamorous ensemble.
Jamie King opted for a minimalist updo to showcase her 'barely there' makeup while Emmy Rossum chose a crimped updo to go with her green and black silk-chiffon gown. Perhaps Emmy's chignon was chosen specifically to complement the texture of her pleated skirt! Either way, crimping it first was definitely an interesting idea.
Last but not least is pose-striking pro Coco Rocha. The internationally renowned model hit the red carpet wearing a statement hat which, perhaps surprisingly, made her hairstyle an integral part of her look. The hat had to work with it, without making it disappear or seem boring in comparison. Suffice to say that a slick wet-look finish was the perfect way to get the job done!
