Are you thinking about getting a short haircut? Is the lure of the always-on-trend pixie cut something you're acutely aware of? Has dealing with long hair started to feel like a chore? If the answer to any of those questions is a yes, it might be time to stop thinking about getting a short haircut and just go for it. Seriously. Just book the appointment and don't look back.

Photo-editing software can give you a vague idea of what the end result will look like but there's just no substitute for the real thing. The problem is, however, that it can be quite an overwhelming change. To help reduce the fear of the (as yet) unknown, we've put together a list of five great reasons to make the cut.

1. You'll save money

Less hair = less product.

2. You'll save time

Short hair has a reputation for being easier to deal with than longer cuts. While this isn't always true, it does apply to washing, drying and general day-to-day styling time.

3. You won't notice shedding as much

When you shed long hair, it's all big and obvious and it gets everywhere. With shorter strands, it's not as visible. Depending on how much you enjoy vacuuming, this might be something to seriously think about.

4. You can have more fun with your makeup

With shorter hair, dressing up involves more bold lip colors and smoky eye makeup than when you have longer locks. After all, you can't dazzle everyone with a super intricate braided updo so a big, beautiful smile will just have to do. Without a curtain of hair to hide behind, you're more likely to feel and look confident (or at least fake it 'til you make it).

5. It always grows back

Even if you decide you don't like your hair short, it will grow back. Like all things, haircuts aren't eternal and you will figure out how to make the best of it. If you're really worried about this happening to you though, try working your way up to a short style by getting a shoulder skimming bob first or trying out some updos that make your hair appear shorter.

The main thing to remember is that it's your hair, your way, and if you want to cut it short then you absolutely should!
