  • Messy bun

If you love the idea of a braided hairstyle but don't enjoy the process of creating one, you're in luck. We have three easy updos for people who don't braid, all of which look just as lovely as a plaited equivalent.

1. Knotted chignon

Tying your hair in big, chunky knots looks just like a braided bun... only without the braiding!

Split your hair into two halves, twist each one, then knot them - once or twice depending on length - at the back. Secure with pins and complete the look with a veil of high-shine finishing spray.

2. Airy updo

As seen on L'Oréal Paris spokesperson Karlie Kloss, this style works especially well with medium-length hair.

Spray dry hair with a volumizing hairspray, then massage the roots with your fingertips to create lift. Sweep your hair back and divide it into three or four sections. Twist and pin each one to the back of your head, then finish with a generous mist of hairspray.

3. Disheveled topknot

This classic casual updo boasts as much texture and romance as any braided style, and it's way faster to achieve.

Again, spray your hair with a volumizing hairspray and dishevel the hair to start. Next, sweep it all into a high ponytail and secure with a hair tie. Twist and pin the pony into a messy bun, then tease a few pieces loose at the front to soften the look. To further loosen the style, slide your fingers under the hair on top and gently lift it.
